We spoke to Jetro about his passion and the demands of being a saxophone DJ. How did the idea of combining DJ and saxophone come about? My father was a jazz drummer and my three older brothers are also all musicians. Their performances inspired me at a young age to become a musician myself. At home, there was a dusty alto saxophone, which I picked up for the first time at the age of about seven and was immediately fascinated by. Fifty minutes of total immersion in a nocturnal, sensorial and personal cultural experience for each visitor: that is the aim of “Lumina Catedral de Toledo”, a sensational production that the public can enjoy from December 2023 inside Spain’s Gothic jewel, the Cathedral “Primada” of Spain. The main components are the mapping of large-scale artistic and architectural elements, precise and captivating surround sound and a lighting design that makes the cathedral’s architecture appear even more impressive. In an interview, Alfonso López Rivera – director of the “Lumina” project and managing director of the company Meraki Cultura Audiovisual SL – reveals the challenges of the audiovisual staging and why the team decided in favour of Cameo lights and LD Systems audio components. What is “Lumina” and how did the idea for this project come about? Alfonso López Rivera: “Lumina Catedral de Toledo” is a multimedia and cultural night-time experience that is unique in the world. Have we forgotten how to talk to each other? In times of ubiquitous communication possibilities? Even “Babylon – Miteinander Reden ist Gold” (“talking to one another is golden”) cannot and will not provide a definitive answer to this question. And yet LORENZ Stiftung’s inclusive dance project – which was performed on 9 July 2024 in the Großer Sendesaal of Hessischer Rundfunk – shows what can happen when people without borders come together: opportunity for all, enjoyment of art, and a strong sense of community. Under the stewardship of director and dance teacher Miguel-Angel Zermeño, a total of 150 people – professionals and amateurs, people with and without disabilities – took to the stage, accompanied by live musicians and the eCon GmbH technical team led by project manager Moritz Stüve. Together, all those involved created an extraordinary live experience with powerful images and moving music – supported by a sound and lighting set-up from LD Systems and Cameo. “Babylon – Miteinander Reden ist Gold” tells an old biblical story, adapted to the challenges of modern times: a lack of understanding and dwindling cooperation in times of digitalisation, algorithms and fake news. Nine days full of music, art, and culture – from 21 to 29 June, the historic city centre of Maribor, Slovenia, hosted the 31st Lent Festival. Once again this year, Slovenia’s largest open-air festival was a magnet for tens of thousands of visitors. National and international artists from all musical genres performed on the large and small stages. In order to cover the stylistic diversity in terms of event technology, the organisers once again relied on a wide range of Cameo lights and a MAILA® array system from LD Systems. Main Stage The Main Stage on Leona Štuklja Square is the centrepiece of the Lent Festival. Top stars of the Slovenian and national music scene played here, including Magnifico, Perpetuum Jazzile, and many more. For the lighting design of the Main Stage (lighting designer: Matevz Giganovič), those responsible – supported by Cameo account manager Ziga Krajnc – relied on an almost identical set-up to the previous year: OPUS® X Profile, OPUS® H5 IP65 beam-spot-wash hybrid moving head, EVOS® W7 LED wash moving head and the ZENIT® W600 outdoor LED wash light. Top sound but with a different spin – that was the simple request made by the operators of the KDKlub Horní Bříza for the new sound system. The cultural centre in the town of Horní Bříza in the west of the Czech Republic is used for various purposes – from concerts and club nights to school dances, weddings, and discussion groups – and required an equally versatile PA system capable of adapting to every type of event.
